Joanne Borgman is an inspirational, self-taught Artist and is well known for her unique paintings.
Born in the township of Gore in Southland, Joanne began painting in 2002 for an escape from the stress of life in general. She describes her studio as ‘her freedom room’. With no distractions, just listening to music and holding her paint brush, she can let her imagination run wild.
Joanne prefers to work with acrylics, but, in recent years, has experimented with ink and various mixed media works.
New Zealand landscapes are central to Joanne's work, but her individual style means that her works do not always represent actual places. This affords her freedom in her presentation as she is not bound to the restraints of realism.
Bold colours and layering techniques express flair and creativity in her painting, and her collection of new, abstract works are appealing, modern and original - pieces that will be passed on from generation to generation.
Joanne has exhibited at a range of Galleries and exhibitions, and also had the privilege of being an Artist in Residence at a new Art Gallery. Her work can be found in private collections throughout New Zealand and Australia.
